The blind spot sensor uses different kinds of technologies to detect the presence of objects. Common technologies used include:

1. Ultrasonic sensors: These sensors emit high‑frequency sound waves and detect the return echoes from surrounding vehicles or objects. By analysing these echoes, the system can determine the distance and position of objects.

2. Radar sensors: These sensors use radio waves to detect the presence of vehicles or objects. They can calculate the distance, speed and angle of moving objects and provide precise information on their positions.

3. Infrared sensors: These sensors detect the infrared radiation emitted by objects and use it to determine their presence and position. They can be used especially at night or in low‑visibility conditions.

The Blind Spot Detection system uses sensors, usually positioned on the exterior door mirrors or on the rear of the vehicle, to detect the presence of other vehicles or objects in the blind‑spot zones. When the system detects a vehicle in the blind spot, it alerts the driver via visual or audible signals. This warning can be a light icon on the mirror, on the dashboard or an audible alarm.

BSD can be particularly useful during lane changes. If the driver activates the indicator to move into a lane occupied by a vehicle in the blind spot, BSD will warn the driver of the potential danger. In some more advanced systems, BSD can also intervene actively to correct the vehicle's trajectory, for example via electronic stability control.

Ultimately, Blind Spot Detection is designed to provide an additional safety tool for the driver, helping to detect the presence of vehicles or objects in blind spots and to avoid potentially dangerous collisions during manoeuvres.

The BSD Spot Detection System is a technology designed to help motorists change lanes safely.

It consists of two radars, one for each side of the vehicle, to be mounted in the rear bumper. These radars monitor traffic in an area extending 70 m from the rear to the side of the vehicle and include the so‑called 'blind‑spot'.

More than simply monitoring vehicles by measuring the distance and speed of approaching vehicles from behind, the control unit can calculate whether a lane change would be dangerous.

If there appears to be an intention by the driver to change lanes, a light located in the mirror and an audible alert inform the driver that there is a potential threat.

If the driver uses the indicator to signal an intended lane change, the warning lamp flashes more intensely and emits a sound to alert the driver that the manoeuvre they are about to carry out is potentially dangerous.

The system works both when the vehicle is overtaking and when it is being overtaken, in order to help prevent dangerous accidents during lane changes.
