Switching from HB3 (9005) halogens to LEDs on a lens headlight is one of the most common and sensible modifications you can make to a car's lighting system.

Unlike traditional parabolic spotlights, lenticular spotlights use a spherical lens to project the light beam. This is why LEDs are particularly well-suited to this technology:

• Sharper cut-off. The lenticular light is designed to create a very sharp horizontal dividing line between light and shadow.
• Advantage: Because LEDs are much brighter than halogens, the lens prevents excess light from "shooting" upwards, avoiding dazzling oncoming traffic.
• Aesthetics: You'll get that signature bluish "blade of light" effect on the edges that you see on modern luxury cars.
• Color temperature and visibility. HB3 halogen bulbs emit a yellowish light (around 3000K-3200K). Good quality LEDs typically operate at 6000K (ice white).
• Perception: White light is less tiring on the eye and reflects road signs and white lines on the asphalt better.
• Depth: Although the beam is the same, the higher light intensity (Lumen) allows you to see obstacles further away in reaction time.
• Efficiency and Heat. HB3 halogen lamps get very hot (they can reach temperatures exceeding 200°C), which over time can cloud the internal reflector of the lens.
• LEDs: They heat up less at the front (the light is "cold"), dissipating heat at the back via fans or passive heat sinks. This preserves the longevity of the headlight's plastic.
• Consumption: An LED consumes around 25W-35W compared to the 60W of a standard HB3, putting less stress on the electrical system.
