The increase in brightness, + 270%, in lumen compared to a halogen is a parameter calculated with REAL data using an ULBRICHT sphere.
The difference between a "classic" LED kit and a "quartz" one mainly concerns light management and the physical construction of the bulb.
While the classic LED relies on the raw power of the chips, the quartz version seeks to mimic the physical behaviour of old halogen bulbs to improve the light beam.
Here are the key points to help you choose:
1. The Classic (Standard) LED Kit
- It is the most widespread model. The LED chips (usually of the CSP type) are mounted on a central metal plate (often copper or aluminium) that acts as a heatsink.
- Strength: Maximum luminous power and proven reliability.
- Weakness: The thickness of the central plate can create "shadow zones" in the headlamp, since the light is not emitted at a true 360° but from two opposite sides.
- Ideal for: Wide-parabola headlamps where raw power helps to cover the road well.
2. The Quartz LED Kit
- In these models, the LED chips are covered by a quartz glass tube or the support itself is transparent.
- 360° effect: The quartz glass acts like a prism. It refracts the light so that it seems to come from a single central point, just like the filament of an original halogen bulb.
- Focusing: It drastically reduces shadow zones. This is crucial to avoid dazzling oncoming drivers and to achieve a sharper light cut-off.
- Protection: The quartz protects the LED chips from dust and moisture, keeping the colour rendition more stable over time.
- Ideal for: Lenticular headlamps (the ones with the round "lens") or very sensitive parabolas where beam precision is more important than raw power.
